LEND US YOUR VOICE
FOR A MESSAGE IN SONG OF HOPE AND CONSOLATION
The Gettalife Project is working in partnership with St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood, London, SE19 (the ‘Cathedral of the South’) to produce An All Souls’ Project on Saturday 1 November 2025.
A key element in this specially curated mix of text, liturgy, music and ritual is the formation of a ‘Gathered Choir’ fusing Gospel and African musical cultures with the English church choral tradition to create an exciting new sound.
As individuals drawn and chosen from different backgrounds, sometimes with painful histories, this unique choir will sing a specially composed 4-part harmony anthem with organ accompaniment to lament lives lost and help to bring a message of hope and consolation to a weary and sometimes pain-filled world.
We seek STRONG SOPRANO, ALTO, TENOR AND BASS VOICES to join the choir.
You will have the chance to be part of a something very special. The gift of your presence and your talent will we believe lift the spirits of all those present in the church on the day and beyond to experience the healing power of music.
Choir membership is FREE!
An initial choir ‘taster’ session will take place led by joint choir directors, Ken Burton and Maureen Brathwaite from 6.30 to 9.00pm on Friday 22 November 2024 at St John the Evangelist,1 Sylvan Rd, Upper Norwood, London SE19 2RX.
The choir will perform material drawn from across the gospel and choral church traditions. A musical highlight will be the opportunity to take part in the international premiere of an ‘Anthem for All Souls’, commissioned by The Gettalife Project from the critically acclaimed composer, Jonathan Dove, who writes extensively for church liturgy, opera, plays, films, orchestral and chamber music.
As noted, the work will be performed by voices in 4-part harmony with organ accompaniment.
